Friends Forever
To foster understand and companionship between parent and child

The YMCA Adventure Guides is for FATHERS AND THEIR CHILDREN, AGES 5 THROUGH 12. Fathers and children attend all program activities together.

As a member of YMCA Adventure Guides, you will have the opportunity to develop a stronger relationship with your child by joining a unique “Circle” with whom you’ll participate in activities like games, camping trips, ceremonies and family adventures. You and your child will take a journey of discovery and learning.

Throughout this journey the Adventure Guide compass points-family, nature, community, fun and the YMCA character values-will provide sense of direction and inspiration for activities.

As a member, you will be able to participate in larger scale activities such as weekend campouts, parties or parades. Conducting group exercises in the Circle fosters leadership, problem solving, group work skills and a sense of commitment to larger community-all of which reinforce the YMCA’s pledge to build strong kids, strong families, and strong communities.

Once you join the program you can either 1) select your own circle, 2) have one suggested, or 3) create your own circle of 8-10 father/child pairs.

Circles have monthly meetings in member’s homes; they plan and do activities and arts and crafts projects. In addition to circle meetings, each month there is an Federation Event where all members of the program come together and participate. To view those activities check the Schedule of Events for this year.

Y-Adventures FAQs

WHAT IS ADVENTURE GUIDES?

It is a program to help fathers (Guides) and their children (Explorers) build strong lasting relationships. They do this by spending quality time together doing fun activities.

HOW MUCH TIME IS INVOLVED?

Two hours a month. Circles meet once or twice a month in the home of circle members on a rotating basis.

WHEN DO CIRCLES MEET?

All meeting dates and times are chosen by each circle to meet individual schedules. Most circles meet on a weeknight around 7 PM or on Sunday afternoon.

WHAT KIND OF ACTIVITIES ARE INVOLVED?

Circle meetings include games, songs, stories, crafts, and refreshments. In addition, each circle plans special activities such as hiking, campouts, community services, and family outings.

WHAT IF I WANT TO JOIN A FRIEND'S CIRCLE?

Great, as long as the children are in the same age range and sex.

WHAT IF I AM A SINGLE MOM?

No problem, your child can still participate in the program with a close male relative or a friend.

HOW DO I JOIN?
