Learn how to be a teen mentor

Learn how to be a teen mentor with YMCA Camp Weaver’s Counselor in Training (CIT) Overnight Summer Camp. This program challenges teens and teaches them key leadership skills they can take with them wherever life takes them. Our CIT program is one of the top summer camps for teens in Guilford County and North Carolina, helping young people explore their strengths and weaknesses while connecting with their peers.

YMCA Camp Weaver provides a safe place for teens to work on real-life skills such as independence, time management and group work while engaging and mentoring younger campers.

Program Details

The YMCA Camp Weaver Counselor in Training (CIT) program is a three-week overnight summer camp session for campers aged 16–17 years old. It is preferred that campers have attended the Leader in Training Overnight Summer Camp prior to registering. We believe these youth are the future of Camp Weaver. They are encouraged to work together to learn the skills needed to become positive role models, in both camp and the community.

intensive training in childcare skills

The first two weeks of our CIT Program at YMCA Camp Weaver focus on intensive training in childcare skills and various camp activity areas. During the last week, CITs are placed into cabins with some of our best staff as mentors. Top-scoring CITs will be among the first candidates considered for staff the following year.

All CITs are required to stay over for the first weekend of their session and go home for the second weekend.
