Will it snow during holiday break this year, or will it rain, or will it be a sunny day? Regardless of what the weather will be, the kids are home for holiday break and looking to be entertained! With the hiccups that breaks cause to a child’s route schedule, he or she may not act the same without activities or something to do. If you are running around looking for activities to do with your kids during break, don’t worry, Camp Weaver has you covered.
Starting on December 16 we will be running our Winter Camp full of fun and seasonal activities for children aged 6 to 14 years old. This is an overnight camp experience that will get your child outside playing and connecting with peers while parents finish holiday shopping or just relax before the hustle and bustle of the holiday season.
If you decide not to join us this year at Winter Camp, you can still keep your kids entertained with holiday activities developed by Camp Weaver! Check out the list of activities and crafts below.
Snowball Racing Game (2+ players)
Test your speed by seeing who can transfer the greatest number of snowballs (cotton balls) from a pot to their cup in an allotted period of time.
Materials
- Bag of Cotton Balls
- Large bowl
- Small bowl for each player
- Straw for each player
- Timer
How to Play
- Put cotton balls into large bowl in the middle of the circle of players.
- Give each player a small bowl and straw and place the small bowl on the table in front of the player.
- Set the timer for 3 minutes or however long you would like.
- Start timer and each player will use his or her straw to suck/pick up a cotton ball and transfer the cotton ball to his or her own bowl. Repeat until the timer beeps.
- Count the number of cotton balls in each player’s bowl and the player with the most cotton balls or snowball in the bowl wins!
Mini Yarn Hat Ornaments Craft
Who doesn’t need a hand-crafted ornament on their tree this year? These adorable mini yarn hat ornaments are easy to make and have been made several times at Camp Weaver’s Winter Camp! View the instructions below, or if you are visual person, read the instructions here.
Materials
- Paper rolls (can be toilet paper rolls or kitchen paper town rolls)
- Yarn in many colors
- Scissors
- Tissue Paper
How To Make The Ornament
- Cut yarn into threads of equal length to go around the circumference of the paper roll.
- Cut paper roll into a thin ring about an inch wide.
- Fold the yarn thread in half and push the loop side through the paper roll.
- Take the other end of the thread and fold it over the paper roll into the loop to get a knot.
- Repeat step four to have the yarn cover the entire paper roll.
- Once covered, push the yarn through the paper roll.
- Put a small roll of tissue paper into the paper roll to get the shape of the hat.
- Take a small strip of yard and tie off the yard threads at the top of the hat to create a pom pom.
- Bam! You’re done! Now add them to the tree or have them out on display for your guests to see.
